Charlie Parker plays Bossa Nova (what if) is an attempt to answer Haruki Murakami’s question, how could have sounded Charlie Parker’s record if he had not died in 1955, but after several years of recovery, returned to playing the saxophone and in 1963 released an album with popular at the time bossa nova. ​

Charlie Parker plays Bossa Nova (what if) is an attempt to answer Haruki Murakami’s question, how could have sounded Charlie Parker’s record if he had not died in 1955, but after several years of recovery, returned to playing the saxophone and in 1963 released an album with popular at the time bossa nova.

In spite of having its origins in a Murakami’s story, the album is not a perfect copy of the record he described. Although the number of songs, the general atmosphere, and even the band’s ensemble is correct, the creators gave up on the use of worn-out jazz standards, opting for original compositions instead. Additionally, in place of an alto saxophone, we will hear a tenor saxophone, adding another brick to the question “what if …”
